The K-9 unit in Greenville County is a truly phenomenal group of dogs and officers providing an unbelievable service to our community. During the recent dedication of their new training facility on May 5, 2010, Sheriff Steve Loftis presented Upstate Veterinary Specialists with an award for Outstanding Support and Dedication to the Greenville County K-9 unit. All of us at Upstate Veterinary Specialists are honored to have the opportunity to support this great team as they strive to keep our community safe.
UVS is proud to announce that we have installed a state of the art MRI specifically designed for dogs and cats. The first of its kind in the Carolinas, this unit rounds out a tremendous array of imaging techniques already available in our facility.
Upstate Veterinary Specialists was recently featured in Greenville Business Magazine's December 2009 issue. The article, "Man's Best Friend", discusses how close the ties are between pets and owners as we all join the fight against cancer. In addition to caring for pets with cancer, UVS co-hosts Paws for a Cause with the American Cancer Society (ACS). The annual charity dog walk event helps to not only raise awareness of cancer in pets but also raise much needed funds for ACS. We hope you can join us for the third annual Paws
for a Cause on October 2, 2010.

Tinkerbelle
Tinkerbelle is 2-year old, female spayed, Yorkshire terrier who presented to UVS with a radius / ulna fracture of her left leg. After the fracture was repaired with orthopedic surgery, Tinkerbelle’s tiny leg did not seem to heal properly. It was soon discovered that her body was reabsorbing the fractured bone instead of healing. Our surgery service performed additional surgeries, including the placement of rhBMP to stimulate bone healing. The bone is now re-growing and continues to develop. It has been a long road for little Tinkerbelle, but each time we see her she has continued to improve.
